In the Dallas Cowboys’ preseason opener, they lost 13-12 to the Los Angeles Rams. The one bright spot in the game was kicker Brandon Aubrey, who notched four field goals to score all 12 points for the Cowboys. Aubrey is currently the only kicker on the Cowboys roster. After logging four field goals (of 30, 36, 38, and 52 yards), Aubrey rushed off the field after the game, hopped into a plane piloted by his father-in-law, and headed straight to Dallas to witness the birth of his first-born child.

Aubrey’s incredible story
Aubrey made it to Dallas in time to be there with his wife Jenn for the birth of their son, Colton Scott Aubrey. Jenn posted photos of the newborn to Instagram on Monday with this caption:
“Colton Scott Aubrey, welcome home! We could not love you more if we tried. Thank you for changing our lives in the best way possible. You truly are a blessing from above. Born 8/12/24 weighing 7lbs 12oz and 20.5in long. Shout out to my dad for flying Brandon home after the game to arrive in time for little one’s birth!”
In the photos, baby Aubrey is wearing a onesie with the Dallas star and the words, “Baby Butter”. The moniker “butter” was given to Brandon Aubrey last season by Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.
“He’s butter,” Prescott said at the time. “Butter Aubrey. Smooth. Always has been since the day that he showed up.”
Aubrey was back at practice the following week and played in Saturday’s preseason game against the Raiders, which the Cowboys won 27-12. In that game, Aubrey notched two field goals of 54 and 66 yards. That 66-yarder, by the way, would have tied the record with Justin Tucker for longest-ever field goal if this had been the regular season.
Aubrey is currently one of the best NFL kickers in the league. What makes his story even more incredible is that Aubrey had never even kicked a football until 2022. He played soccer at Notre Dame and spent two seasons in the MLS before becoming a traditional kicker in the USFL. The Cowboys were in desperate need of a solution at the kicker position at the beginning of last season and took a chance on Aubrey, and boy did it pay off big time.
