The Cowboys are heading back to Dallas to host the Los Angeles Chargers in their final preseason game this weekend. The Cowboys are 1-1 in the preseason so far, having lost to the Rams in the opener but coming off of a win over the Raiders last week. The Chargers have lost both their preseason games so far, to the Seahawks and Rams, and their offense has yet to see the end zone.
Neither team is expected to play their starters much, if at all. This final preseason game will tell more about which players will make the cut, as the teams must have their rosters down to 53 players by the end of the day on Tuesday, August 27.
The Chargers have already made some cuts following their first two preseason games, including quarterback Max Duggan. Justin Herbert has just returned to practice after a plantar fascia injury that kept him in a walking boot for two weeks. Behind him, the Chargers have Easton Stick and Luis Perez, who combined for 160 yards and no touchdowns during Saturday’s loss to the Rams. Stick threw one interception.

The Cowboys will need to decide if they keep their backup quarterback Trey Lance on the roster. Lance had an underwhelming start in the opener, but improved in week 2, logging one passing and one rushing touchdown in their 27-12 victory over the Raiders, but keeping three QBs on the roster is unlikely. This game could determine whether he or Cooper Rush make the final spot as Dak Prescott’s backup.
