ToggleIndeed, Messi claims that he will always remember his spell in France for the fact that he won the 2022 World Cup while he was a PSG player, rather than for anything he achieved at club level. The 36-year-old won two Ligue 1 titles in two seasons, as well as the Trophée des Champions (the French equivalent of a “Super Cup”), although the Parisians failed to progress beyond the round of 16 of the Champions League, which they were desperate to win.
“That’s how things worked out. If I’m honest, it didn’t go as I hoped it would. I always say that everything happens for a reason and although I say that I didn’t enjoy being there, I won the World Cup when I was there (at PSG). Everything happens for a reason and if that’s the way it had to be, I understood that later,” Messi told Granados.
